Case Details
We met Applicant E at the end of his Year 9. He was a highly intelligent student who enjoyed competitive mathematics and hoped to represent Australia in an International Mathematical Olympiad one day. With MIT as his top choice, he was determined to try to apply to the top college in the US.
The first thing we at Elite Admission Consulting did was to broaden Applicant E’s academic focus, because mathematics alone was probably not strong enough to help him get into any of the most selective colleges. We introduced him to liberal arts education and used it to help him broaden his horizons. Meanwhile, we encouraged him to step outside of his classroom and become more active in his school activities. In fact, Applicant E thoroughly enjoyed exploring academic fields, finding interest in a wide range of subjects, including history and classics. He also embraced the various roles he played in activities, such as peer mentoring and service trips. The exploration not only helped him in his U.S. college preparation but also made him grow and understand himself better. Such an organic process laid the groundwork for his success in admission.
Representing Australia in international competitions is an important component for MIT admission from Australia. Given that the math Olympiad is very competitive, we recommended Applicant E start looking at the Science Olympiad to enhance his chances for international competitions.
